    The Institute for Development Research is a French not-for-profit government-funded science and technology research institute, its general mission is research, training and consultancy with a view to promoting the economic, social and cultural development in the southern countries. Research performed at IRD covers a wide range of fields, with a focus on the relationship between man and his environment in the tropical and Mediterranean countries. The IRD responds to development challenges regarding the societies and human health, earth, and living resources. The IRD conducts research in co-operation with numerous partner countries.

  • Commission for Development studies - Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Reseach / KEF-OeAD / Austria

    The Commission for Development Studies (KEF) at the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD) aims at bridging the gap between science and development. The overall idea is to improve interaction between the research community, organizations and agencies conductingdevelopment cooperation. The subsidisation of applied cooperative research projects with partners in developing countries and consulting are KEFs primary intervention areas. KEF supports projects in developing countries aiming at the alleviation of poverty. The Commission also serves as a contact point for domestic and foreign organisations.

  • Conseil interuniversitaire de la Communauté francaise de Belgique + Commission universitaire pour le Développement / CIUF + CUD / Belgium

    University Development Co-operation is one of the components of the Belgian Development Cooperation. For the French-speaking community it is implemented by a standing committee established by the Inter-University Council of the French-speaking Universities of Belgium (CIUF): the University Committee for Development (CUD). It aims at defining a common development co-operation policy, promoting this to the public authorities and coordinating related programmes. CUD co-ordinates teaching and research projects, capacity-building and institutional support programmes in partnership with universities and research institutions in Africa.

  • Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / MHESR / Egypt

    The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research determines higher education strategies at national levels, develops programs to implement these strategies, contributes to theoretical and applied scientific research, and considers geographical requirements in meeting the state's needs for universities and research centres. Recognizing the need for international cooperation in Science and Technology (S&T), Research, Development and Innovation (RDI), in particular with Europe, the MHESR has formed a designated unit for European Cooperation. MHESR is actively promoting Egyptian participation in international research programmes.

    The Finish Ministry of Employment and the Economy is responsible for the operating environment underpinning entrepreneurship and innovation activities, securing the functioning of the labour market and workers’ employability, as well as for regional development within the global economy. The Ministry operations promote the development of technology for the needs of businesses, other organisations and citizens alike. Its research, analysis and assessment operations support decision-making related to technology and innovation policy.

  • International Bureau, Project Management Agency, German Aerospace Center/ DLR / Germany

    The Project Management Agency of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) assists the  German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the planning and implementation of national research programmes and related European and international affairs. It provides direct services to the Ministry and administers funding within national and international programmes. The International Bureau supports cooperation in science, technology and education with about 50 countries worldwide, with an emphasis on the third country relations of the European Research Area. Sub-Saharan Africa is a region of emerging priority in this context.

  • Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung / BMBF / Germany

    The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) performs tasks in: Vocational training, support of young researchers, promotion of the international exchange of trainees and academics, as well as support for basic research, key technologies, and research aimed at solving future problems. BMBF is responsible for implementing the international science and technology (S&T) cooperation strategies of the German Federal Government. The S&T cooperation with African countries is shaped by bilateral activities on the basis of formal agreements, and BMBF is involved in S&T cooperation with Africa on a multilateral level (EU, OECD, G8, UN).

  • Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology /MOST-KE / Kenya

    The mandate of the Kenyan Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST-KE) include to: Formulate and coordinate national science, technology and innovation (STI) and technical education (TE) policies; Determine priorities for science and technology education and; Spearhead the application of research results, and transfer of technology into national development. Another majorgoal is to achieve global competitiveness through international cooperation in STI as well as to initiate and STI funding programmes. The Ministry has recently developed an International Cooperation programme to enhance S&T cooperation with global regions, including Europe.

  • Ministério de Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior. Fundacao para a Ciência e Tecnologia / FCT / Portugal

    Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) is Portugal’s main funding agency for research. It is responsible for implementing international agreements in science and technology. FCT is a public autonomous institute under the aegis of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education. FCT’s promotes the advancement of Portugese S&T knowledge, exploring opportunities in any scientific domain to attain the highest international standards in the creation of knowledge. This mission is accomplished through public open calls, and through cooperation agreements in partnership with universities and other public or private institutions.

  • Department of Science and Technology / DST / South Africa

    The South African Department of Science and Technology is the national government authority responsible for science, technology and innovation policy. The Department is also responsible for overseeing South Africa’s international science and technology cooperation. An important part of South Africa’s S&T cooperation portfolio is the country’s relations with the European Union, including participation in the EU's Framework Programmes for Research. South Africa signed a S&T Cooperation Agreement with the European Union in 1996, and the Department has therefore been responsible to coordinate and promote cooperation under this Agreement.

    The Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN) executes government competences in Science, Tecnological Development and Innovation. The MICINN manages the National Plan for Research, Development and Innovation, including: Human Resources, R&D and Innovation Projects, Science and Technology Infrastructures, Knowledge Use and Technology Transfer, and Internationalization. Its research funding covers basic and application oriented research projects, training and mobility, and research infrastructure. The MICINN is highly concerned in the construction of the European Research Area and in transnational cooperation.

  • Swiss National Science Foundation / SNSF / Switzerland

    The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is Switzerland’s leading provider of scientific research funding. With its federal mandate, it supports basic research in all disciplines. It also invests in applied research. The SNSF is a central instrument for state-funded research. Its activities focus primarily on funding investigator-driven research and promoting junior scientists. The focus of its activities is the scientific endorsement of projects submitted by researchers. The SNSF attaches great importance to funding interdisciplinary research projects and supporting equal opportunities for women and men.

  • The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Tukey / TUBITAK / Turkey

    The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) is the umbrella organization for the National Contact Point system of the EU's Seventh Framework Programme in Turkey. TUBITAK is in charge of coordinating research and development in the fields of science and technology. TUBITAK’s main functions are to determine Turkey’s science and technology policies; to support scientific research; to provide scholarships to researchers; to support industrial innovations; to promote university-industry collaborations; to promote techno-parks and; to implement tasks undertaken through international S&T cooperation agreements.
